September 2026 Edition

GASTRONOMICALLY YOURS

Thank you—to my family, friends, industry colleagues, teachers, mentors and to Ed Daniels, our founder, and publisher—for the support, mentorship and belief that brought me to this moment. It is a blessing to be this fortunate, and I carry that responsibility forward with purpose. As I step into this passion and “jobbie” role, I see Hospitality News through fresh eyes. It is much needed to be brilliant at the basics. With all of the AI and information noise Gastronomically Yours will be my update to serve you. And Family Meal will be your Opinion or OP-Ed section where you can share your voice. Together, we are building a legacy trade publication that with your help, will mean something. Stand the test of time, so, that future generations may look back during our nation’s 500th anniversary and see the impact we made. The launch of Foodservice 500, started with a question to AI about vision and dreams...Can turn into a national tribute to the people who feed America, hopefully will inspire a better future because of our words, care for one another and actions we take in everyday life. To grow find a buddy or partner to push you to get better, someone that complements you. Attend industry events and network with supplier partners that stand purpose driven, and together that will give you the Hospitality Edge. The challenges may shift in priority by region or from operation to operation, staffing, COGs, higher expectations, deliveries, AP, inventory, sales, but the resilience of our industry is solid.

As a trained chef that was home schooled, I think a little bit differently and found my life’s work learning from smart hospitable people. As a proud member of the American Culinary Federation, I look to the Culinarian’s Code as my foundation: honor, fairness, cooperation, professionalism and respect. These principles will guide how we work, communicate and grow together. In the months ahead, we will introduce more editorial board members along with our regional editions and publish some world class content. It has been a privilege to work with and interview such talented professionals and dedicated leaders. We have high expectations and have our work cut out for us but with purpose and commitment. I believe we will help contributors, strategic partners and future team members understand how to collaborate, create wins and succeed with us. Leave the planet a better place by delivering for the triple bottom line of people, planet and business. My philosophy is simple: use “we” and “our” instead of “me” and “I”, as I work hard to use my power for good and be better tomorrow than today. We don’t need every answer now, but we do have an obligation to keep improving — make corrections with humility and transparency when we publish a mistake, which will happen but from a place of good intentions.
