Do You Need Travel Insurance? By Michelle Kilian of Carber Travel, a branch of Tzell Travel Group

Ultimately, travel insurance is like its insurance sisters car and health – you hope not to use it but you’re glad to have it when you need it. The cost of travel insurance is determined by your age and the cost of the trip. Benefits of travel insurance include: • It can help with delayed, lost, or stolen property, including your baggage. • If for health reasons you need an emergency evacuation, depending on the type of insurance you purchase, that can be performed. have had so many clients over the years ask me if they need travel insurance. It’s a personal I decision but one that requires education before making that determination. At the end of the day, travel insurance is that gamble. People can go on dozens of cruises, excursions, etc., and never need it or go away one time and be put in a dire situation. Some of the consequences of not having travel insurance are: • Losing some or all of your non-refundable travel costs. • Paying exorbitant costs for doctors’ visits and/or hospitalizations overseas. Armed with the above information, which route would you want to take?

As difficult as it might be to make a destination decision, the same could be said for obtaining travel insurance. A good travel agent will walk you through why it might be the right thing for you or maybe why it's not suitable. Work closely with them and you will get the right answer for you!
