Why Latino Restaurateurs Are Making a Powerful Impact on Foodservice By Eddie Daniels | EddieD@HospitalityNewsNY.com

Over the past two decades, Latino entrepreneurs have become one of the fastest-growing forces in the American restaurant industry. Their success isn't about one factor—it is the result of experience, determination, community support and an entrepreneurial mindset. Many Latino restaurant owners begin their careers working in every part of the business. They learn food preparation, customer service, purchasing, scheduling and operations before opening their own establishments. That practical experience often provides a strong foundation for ownership. Family involvement is another important advantage. Many restaurants are family- operated, with relatives contributing to daily operations, management and long-term growth. This can create continuity, shared commitment and a long-term perspective.

The growing popularity of Latin American cuisines has also played a role. Mexican, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Colombian, Peruvian, Brazilian, Salvadoran, Venezuelan and many other culinary traditions have become increasingly popular with customers from every background. At the same time, Latino entrepreneurs are succeeding far beyond traditional ethnic concepts, operating steakhouses, bakeries, cafés, seafood restaurants, hotels and catering companies.
